Flamenco guitarrists usually have long fingernails in their right hand in order to get those sharp sounds when required. That adds a lot of expression to the general sound and can make a song sound entirely different just by placing the "sharp" notes differently.Check Sabica's hands in the vide "Arabian Dance", and you'll see his fingernails.
