http://www.mediaed.orgWhile the social construction of femininity has been widely examined, the dominant role of masculinity has until recently remained largely invisible. Tough Guise is the first educational video geared toward college and high school students to systematically examine the relationship between pop-cultural imagery and the social construction of masculine identities in the U.S. at the dawn of the 21st century. In this innovative and wide-ranging analysis, Jackson Katz argues that widespread violence in American society, including the tragic school shootings in Littleton, Colorado, Jonesboro, Arkansas, and elsewhere, needs to be understood as part of an ongoing crisis in masculinity. This exciting new media literacy tool-- utilizing racially diverse subject matter and examples-- will enlighten and provoke students (both males and females) to evaluate their own participation in the culture of contemporary masculinity.

No. What I am really saying cannot be explained in the 500 words YouTube gives you to comment with. Anyway, to the question of why they validate it: because in our society it is rewarded to do so. And people like to be rewarded, and people like meeting the expectations of other people and pleasing the majority. I am saying that we are presented with the incorrect ways of getting to be in control and getting respect. We confuse respect with fear and interchange it freely.

Great documentaries. Covering topics too broad and not long enough, though, and they might point the wrong finger half of the time.

I think the bigger question is why women can't commit as much crimes and assault as men.

Physical? Strong? Independent? Powerful? In control? Respected? Tough? That also applies to women nowadays. Just add "sexy".

You construct a complete stereotype about feminists. Many feminists defend men against negative stereotypes. Watch the film by Jean Kilbourne; she states on several occasions that she does not want media stereotyping men in negative ways. You have bunched all feminists into the same category and then smeared them with the same negative view.
